In January 2024, the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust informed a number of patients that Dr. Stan, who had treated them at Treliske Hospital 4-5 years earlier, was under investigation by the General Medical Council.

A hearing by the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) was held to assess his fitness to practice. The tribunal ultimately removed him from the medical register after determining that he had subjected patients to unnecessary, invasive, and intimate procedures, including the administration of rectal medication, driven by his own sexual gratification.

Whilst there remains a lot of unanswered questions regarding the extent of Dr Stan’s actions and the steps taken by the Hospital Trust, the following is a summary of the timeline of events as far as we are aware:

  • 27 May 2020: The Clinical Director writes to Dr Stan asking him to read the chaperone policy.
  • 7 September 2020: Dr Stan stops working as a doctor at Royal Cornwall Hospitals.
